Here is some information on how one of our units started for those interested in starting a unit in their area.
After a very successful school holiday program in July there was a strong feeling that we needed to ensure that the children that had attended would not have to wait another year for the next holiday programme to come around. We already had ICONZ for boys (8-11yrs) which was exciting and so very well run we decided that we should look at something for the girls (us girls don't want to miss out). For me this is where it gets interesting. It is amazing how quickly God can work and how smooth he can make paths. The super fast start up of IFG for girls at Royal Oak Baptist is I believe a reflection of God’s will, nothing stood in the way of this opportunity, Leaders came forward, training was completed, programs were written. Everyone's response and enthusiasm has been a confirmation that this is truly God’s will. (not that things are always this easy when it is Gods will) When we decided to look at this outreach opportunity there was only one girls unit in New Zealand 8-10 yrs, but watch out they are opening up rapidly all over the country. Being at the forefront of something new and so exciting has certainly been special. We held 2 trial nights before the start of term 4, these were a great unknown, but a huge success. On our first IFG night where we had 28 girls making Fathers day craft, our second night we saw 46 girls having a great time at a fun games evening. We currently have 36 girls aged 5-8 registered to attend IFG and a very dedicated group of 10 leaders, plus some very regular helpers. So far this term we have had a treasure hunt, made some fantastic stilts and baked gingerbread Jonah's. I am truly excited and passionate about the influence this will have on the lives of these girls, as we get to know them and their families. I get goose bumps just thinking about it.
