9 JUNE 2011
Wow so far 2011 has been a real blast. Water sports on a stinking hot day in the bay (no pun intended) and a water fight to end the very first day back for 2011. Next week found us floating down the river on inner tubes, definately do this again even though the weather was overcast. Then 3 weeks with Martin with his pommy accent and dreadlocks didn't deter the girls from having a ball on Pandora pond learning to kayack. Great fun was had by all learning new skills and even a game of football was played on the water using the kayacks. Camping was next up with Jess our young leader planning and organising a two week programme and then an overnight camp at Tuki Tuki. Putting up tents, rope tying, building a fire, orienteering, bullrush, cooking sauages on sticks over the fire, toasting marshmellows, playing spotlight, eating good food all added up to a really good time for everyone. Next was Mothers day where the girls learnt how it all began. The girls made cute fold out photo albums to give to their mums. We took photos over the term so they could fill them up with photos of themselves.
Term two saw the focus changing to learning about the "Love Languages". The girls discovered how everyone has a love language and we all identify with one of them, the key is discovering which one it is. Physical touch, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service or quality time. Coming up next up is "cookz " - creating quick tasty & nutritious food in the kitchen.
Wow what a great first term we’ve had; I’m not sure who had more fun the Leaders or the girls!
We kicked off with a team event - “Rip it Up”. So with huge piles of newspaper and a list of crazy things they had to do, each team competed against each other to score the most points. Lots of fun was had creating, scrunching, finding, ripping and throwing wads of paper at the opposition.
I Time – our name for devotions, the leaders did a skit that was a fun way of bringing to their attention how you can be influenced and affected by what you see on TV or at the movies.
The following week the girls made very cute button rings and played a variety of games.
A trip to the SPCA was next up which proved to be very informative and educational. The following week we had another informative session with a vet and after that out to see some horses and their owner.
Midway through term the girls went to Lazer force and played 3 high energy games.
Next up a visit to the Salvation Army Op shop where the girls got to rummage through heaps of clothing to find something they could transform into their own creation.
I was quite surprised at what they were able to create in only 90 minutes.
To end the term parents were invited to a fashion show where the girls modelled their creations.
All girls were presented with their community projectz badge and their fashion fix badge.
The curriculum is very helpful although we have on occasion changed things to suit our group of girls. Having a structured programme makes it a very good base to work from, and generally there’s not much we do change.
